As members of the Copernicus Academy, we would like to highlight the following news items:
- GeoSentinel, a Copernicus Academy member in Hungary, has recently released results of a study on using Sentinel-1 to detect ground movement in Budapest.
- The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is organising a workshop on Developing Python Frameworks for Earth System Sciences on 28 and 29 November 2017. The workshop is aimed at developers in the field of environmental data, and will allow them to discuss interoperability of different packages, and harmonisation of different developments.
- Allianz Reinsurance has launched the Allianz Climate Risk Research Award, as part of its activities to mitigate risks related to climate change, to increase resilience, and to promote scientific research. The 2017 Award topic is Climate risk: real-time information & new technologies.The Award is intended to support talented researchers whose research focuses on reducing the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change or fostering resilience by applying technological solutions. Finalists will receive a monetary award.
- On Friday 29 September 2017, the European Researchers’ Night will take place in cities around Europe. The European Topic Centre in Malaga, and the Institute for Environmental Solutions in Latvia, will be showcasing Copernicus as part of their participation in the European Researchers’ Night.
- Copernicus Marine Week from 25 to 29 September in Brussels. The purpose of the week is to present the achievements of the Copernicus Marine Service in economical and societal challenges, science and EU leadership worldwide.
- Call for proposals for Kick-start Activities from ESA ARTES. The current open call is focused on FinTech. Another call will open at the end of July and is focused on Wildlife protection. For the latter, there will be two webinars in July to provide further information on the topics of the call and the proposal process.
- Copernicus Hackathon Programme. Deadline: 07/09/2017.
